United States of America: Louisiana – Texas – Arkansas – Tennessee – Mississippi

I am about to write this travel journal in one go, listening to “Twisting the night away” one of the most famous Sam Cooke’s songs. Arthur Conley sang in the 60’s “Do you like good music? The sweet soul music…” and yes I definitely love Soul music, it’s part of me, It scans the sound of my heartbeat and cheers me up when I am blue. This journey, indeed, is born from my passion for Blues and Soul Music.

We left Milan for New Orleans, booking only the flight go and return. After all, US are so wide and I was pretty sure we would have found the right place where to stay, there are so many Hotel / Motel for every pocket! Furthermore it’s pretty exciting to leave without a destination, stopping only where you like

First stop: New Orleans…or better NOLA

New Orleans is pure jazz, it’s Bourbon street, street musicians and music all nightlong, New Orleans is delicious Cajun food, it’s the MARDI GRAS, NOLA is the morning fog along the Mississippi river, it’s the bursting Poboy, the muffeletta and the fabulous baignet and much & much more…but especially NOLA is Mike & Christine, two of my bestfriends, so far away but so close!

NOT TO BE MISSED:

  • French district, Bourbon Street and street musicians
  • Magazine street: outlandish shops and The Vintage (best Manhattan cocktail and Baignets in town)
  • Maison Bourbon dedicated to preservation of Jazz – Pure Jazz!!
  • Delicious Poboy
  • Jackson Square and Mississippi river promenade

Visit a Lousiana sugar plantation, We have chosen Whitney plantation because it’s the only one in Lousiana with a focussed Museum on the lives of enslaved people.
